School bus with more than 30 students hits tree in Laurel County; one child hurt

One student was taken to a hospital Wednesday and two more were checked by paramedics after a school bus hit a tree in Laurel County.

The bus had been on Money Road about 7:26 a.m. when the bus went off the left side of the road on a curve and struck the tree, according to the sheriff's office. There were more than 30 students on the bus.

The bus driver, Joseph Parker, 61, of East Bernstadt, told deputies that he had looked back at the students just before the bus went off the road.

One student was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London for treatment, according to the sheriff's office. A second bus picked up the rest of the students and took them to school.
