State closes second bridge over Herrington Lake

Lexington Herald-Leader

The state Transportation Cabinet on Wednesday indefinitely closed a second bridge over Herrington Lake.

Chenault Bridge on Ky. 3042 that spans the lake between Boyle and Garrard counties was closed because of deterioration of the deck.

Chenault Bridge, built in 1924, is not as heavily used as Kennedy Mill Bridge, also built in 1924, between Garrard and Mercer counties. The state closed the Kennedy Mill Bridge on Sept. 3.

Most traffic that once used the Chenault Bridge now uses a newer bridge on Ky. 34 that opened in 1992.
