It was represented by Jan Greenwood, one of two partners and the president and chief executive officer.
The contract has not been negotiated.
Greenwood worked on the CPE search that led to the hiring of Tom Layzell in 2003.
Layzell retired in 2007. Richard Crofts, former higher education chief in Montana and Mississippi, is the CPE's interim president.
The CPE committee also interviewed John K. Thornburgh of Witt/Kieffer of Oak Brook, Ill.; and Michael Baer of Isaacson, Miller of Boston. Baer is a former University of Kentucky arts and sciences dean.
Greenwood/Asher was hired in April by the University of Texas System in its high-profile hunt for a successor to Chancellor Mark G. Yudof, who became president of the University of California System.
