One man died and another man was injured in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday on Highway 1087 in the Talcum community of Knott County.
The accident occurred about 11 a.m. when Matthew D. Everage, 25, of Talcum lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle struck an embankment and tree, then crossed both lanes of traffic and struck a utility pole.

Carlos R. Everage, 28, of Hazard, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Kentucky State Police. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Matthew Everage was taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to state police.
