Barbourville councilman sentenced

Barbourville City Councilman Calvin Lynn Manis, 62, was sentenced on Monday in U.S. District Court to 12 months in prison for failing to properly maintain firearm records at his business, Parkway Pharmacy. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $15,000, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky said in a press release.

In October, Manis pleaded guilty to charges that he sold 41 firearms to a woman who was buying them for her husband, a felon. Last year, Manis was sentenced to probation for misbranding drugs at that same pharmacy.

Manis must report to prison March 9. Under federal law, he must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and will be on probation for one year following his release.
