An Ohio man died after falling 165 feet during a hike in Red River Gorge on Sunday afternoon, U.S. Forest Service officials confirmed.
Powell County Coroner Carl Wells identified the man as Ronald J. Trick, 63, of Powell, Ohio.
Trick fell from Haystack Rock deep in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Tunnel Ridge Road in Powell County in the mid-afternoon, said Dave Manner, ranger for the Cumberland District of the forest that covers Red River Gorge.
Trick was a frequent visitor to the gorge and was hiking along when he apparently got too close to the edge of a cliff, said Wells, who notified Trick's family late Sunday night.
