The Forest Service is considering an off-season fee increase for camping in the Koomer Ridge Campground near the Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Winter camping fees would rise from $7 to $10 in 2010 and $14 in 2012. The fee increases would apply only to the off-season months, which are typically November through March.
The summer fee is $18. The winter fees haven't changed since 2000.
The extra money would help with the rising cost of running the campground. About 80 percent of the fees collected at the site go for picking up trash, cleaning toilets and other maintenance needs.
A group called the Eastern and Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee will consider the fee increase at a meeting in February.
