Can of Mountain Dew implicates burglary suspect in Knox

A can of Mountain Dew helped catch an alleged burglar in Knox County, according to police.

Johnny Hobbs, 40, of Flat Lick was drinking a can of Mountain Dew when police went to his trailer to talk to him as a potential suspect, Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Wagner said.

Police knew that whoever burglarized the nearby home of Dustin and Paula Mills, stealing Christmas presents and a television and DVD player, also took a case of Mountain Dew, Wagner said.

Wagner said the bar code on the can of Dew that Hobbs was drinking matched the code on a can dug out of the trash at the victims' home.

Hobbs and John Robert Hubbard, 23, also of Flat Lick, were charged with second-degree burglary, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The break-in occurred Dec. 22, and police arrested the two Dec. 23, the news release said.
