Water emergency declared in Perry County

Perry County Judge-Executive Denny Ray Noble declared a local state of emergency Monday to help deal with a water outage affecting at least 300 households in Buckhorn and the northern part of the county, said John Epperson, the local emergency manager.

Epperson said the Buckhorn area lost water service last week. Workers delivered bottled water to the area last Thursday and again Monday, and they are planning more deliveries, Epperson said.

Epperson said there have been breaks in some water mains, causing a shortage of water.

The emergency declaration gives Noble authority to waive rules on bidding and purchasing in order to deal with the water shortage, if necessary.
