Slain police chief's son in jail after altercation

A Powell County man, the son of slain Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy, is in jail after an altercation at a neighbor's house about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Brian Lacy of Clay City was charged with assault after he attempted to stab Brian Epperson during a struggle at 2801 Hardwicks Creek Road, according to Kentucky State Police. During the fight, Lacy pulled a pocket knife and tried to stab Epperson but missed and stabbed himself in the chest instead, according to the state police report. Lacy tried again and hit Epperson in the arm.

Epperson was treated on the scene for a superficial wound; Lacy was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center and released.

The late Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy was shot to death in June 2007 while attempting to arrest James H. Barnett for driving under the influence. Barnett is serving life in prison.
