Speed likely contributed to wreck that killed 2 Gallatin teens, deputy says

Two teens died in a wreck in Gallatin County on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old driver of a Dodge Stratus and a 15-year-old passenger died after the single-vehicle crash, which occurred at about 8 p.m. on U.S. 42 East, just outside of Warsaw, said Brent McDonald, a Gallatin County sheriff's deputy.

Gallatin County Coroner Jack Hughes confirmed that the victims were Alex Sullivan, 17, and Danny Chapman, 15.

A third teenager who was riding in the car, a 15-year-old boy, "is at home doing well," McDonald said.

He said all three boys were wearing seat belts.

Both Sullivan and Chapman were students at Gallatin County High School, according to obituaries posted on the Web site of McDonald and New Funeral Homes in Owenton.

McDonald said "speed is probably definitely going to be a factor" in the crash, but a final determination on the cause of the wreck has not been made.
