Teen charged after leading police on 2-county chase

Police responding to a reported vehicle explosion near Smiths Grove arrested a teenager late Thursday night after he led authorities on a chase in a stolen pickup truck through Warren and Allen counties.

Kody Castleberry, 18, is charged with fleeing/evading police in a motor vehicle, fleeing/evading police on foot, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, receiving stolen property and reckless driving. He was being held in the Allen County jail.

Deputy Robert Smith of the Warren County Sheriff's Office said he responded to a reported explosion Thursday night off Motor Loop in the Smiths Grove area, where someone had witnessed a vehicle fleeing the scene.

Smith said Smiths Grove Police Chief Tom Suoy saw the pickup truck fleeing south on Ky. 101. The chase continued south into Allen County on Ky. 101, with Castleberry almost hitting a cruiser that had set up a road block on a bridge along the road, Smith said.

The truck continued into Scottsville, and turned into the former Sumitomo plant in Scottsville, drove through at least one fence before striking a telephone pole on an embankment, Smith said. Castleberry was arrested after a brief chase on foot, Smith said.
