Harlan house fire kills one

One person died Saturday in a Harlan County house fire, but officials had not identified the person by late afternoon.

The fire was reported at 2:43 a.m. Saturday in the Shields community of Harlan County, according to Kentucky State Police at Harlan.

A second resident at the house, identified as Harrison Aslinger, was admitted to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he was being treated for burns.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, police said.

The victim who died will be sent to the state Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.
