Boy, 15, charged with murder in Laurel shooting of his cousin, 15

LONDON — The teen who died Saturday in a Laurel County shooting has been identified as Craig Hammack, 15.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the case, Kentucky State Police said.

An argument at a residence on Byble Road escalated to the point where one boy shot the other, police said in a news release. The shooting was reported to state police shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Chris Vanover, a deputy coroner in Laurel County, said Hammack and the teen charged in the case were first cousins.

Hammack was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun, Vanover said. He did not know who owned the gun.

The juvenile who was charged, whose name was not released, also is accused of tampering with physical evidence, state police said.
