Accident severs a man's leg

The setting sun was probably a factor in a Lexington car accident that severed a man's leg Thursday, police said.

A driver told police he was traveling west about 8 p.m. when he was blinded by the sun and almost hit a parked trailer on Dennis Drive. Swerving to avoid the trailer, he struck a man who was standing beside a parked truck, pinning him and severing his leg, Lexington police Lt. Melissa Sedlaczek said.

The man was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital. His condition was not available Thursday night. The driver of the car did not appear to be injured but was taken to Central Baptist Hospital, Sedlaczek said.

Police were investigating Thursday night; they have not released the names of either person involved.
