A 10-yera-old Gallatin County girl was killed by a car as she went to get the mail, police said.
The victim, who was not identified by Kentucky State Police, was going to the mailbox at the end of her driveway on KY 16 when she was hit by a 17-year-old girl. The driver, who called police at 5:52 p.m., did not see the girl because of a hill and curve in the road, police said. The 10-year-old was immediately airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Children's Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.
State Police will continue to investigate but said alcohol does not appear to be a factor and no criminal charges will be filed.
