University of Kentucky doctors have upgraded the conditions of two men burned Friday in a fire at a Pulaski County charcoal plant.
Dana Mayrand and Gayson Roberts, whose conditions had been listed as critical, have been upgraded to serious, UK Hospital said Sunday. A third man, Jamie Dancy, remains in serious condition. No condition was available for a fourth man, Terry King.
The four men suffered burns, as well as internal injuries from inhaling heated air and gases, when the fire broke out just before noon Friday at the Kingsford Manufacturing Co. plant near Burnside. The facility makes charcoal briquets.
According to authorities, the four workers were on a catwalk above an assembly of four-story metal silos where briquets are stored before shipping. They were using torches and welding equipment to repair a conveyor.
