A hiker was found dead late Friday night in the Red River Gorge in Wolfe County.

John W. Pacey, 44, of Waynesville, Ohio, was found unresponsive in the Chimney Top Road area about 10:26 p.m., according to Kentucky State Police, who responded to a call from Wolfe County Emergency Operations.

According to state police, Mr. Pacey was walking along a narrow trail with friends, lost his balance and fell about 150 feet down an embankment.

Wolfe County Deputy Coroner Gary Sparks pronounced Mr. Pacey dead at the scene. The death is under investigation.
