Rockcastle man pleads guilty in traffic death of local GOP official

A Rockcastle County man pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree manslaughter in the traffic death of a longtime local Republican Party official.

Michael Allen, 29, was driving under the influence of drugs when he hit a car driven by Juanita Davis in October 2009. Davis' granddaughter Becky Davis was a passenger.

Allen pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Juanita Davis, and to assault in injuries to Becky Davis.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jeremy Bartley said he will recommend a sentence of 20 years for Allen during sentencing Jan. 14.

Allen was on parole at the time of the wreck. His parole was revoked, so his total sentence would be 24 years, Bartley said.

Juanita Davis had been a Republican Party official in Rockcastle County and in the 5th Congressional District.
