Danville police seek man who used fake gun in foiled hotel holdup

Danville police are searching for a man who tried to rob a hotel with a fake gun on Monday.

The man, who was wearing a mask, entered the business about 12:15 a.m., showed a black handgun and demanded cash from a clerk at the Comfort Suites on Perryville Road, police said.

The clerk told police he realized the gun was not real and refused to give the man money. The man left through the front doors, police said.

He was described as white, about 5-foot-8 and with a thin build. He was wearing a light-colored, hooded sweatshirt.

Police requested that anyone with information about the case contact Assistant Chief Tony Gray at (859) 238-1220 or (859) 238-1224, Ext. 2490.
