Letcher woman charged after infant left in car

A Letcher County woman was arrested Monday after allegedly leaving her 2-month-old infant inside an unattended vehicle, Kentucky State Police said.

Nancy M. Castle, 24, of Jackhorn was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor, a police news release said.

A person who heard the infant crying inside a Chevrolet Cavalier alerted trooper Brandon Thomas as he patrolled Whitesburg Plaza Shopping Center.

Castle had gone into an Appalachian Wireless store to buy a cell phone, state police said.

The child was taken into custody by state authorities. Castle was taken to the Letcher County jail. She also was arrested on several unrelated felony charges.
