One man was rescued but another man died Saturday after a traffic accident in which their vehicle landed in a creek in Bell County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on Ky. 0217 in Shillalah when the wheel of a vehicle driven by Carter Creed Caldwell, 35, of Campbellsville, dropped off the pavement. The westbound vehicle went over an embankment and into the creek, state police said.

They were able to free passenger Allen Puckett, 47, of Cubbage but were not able to save Caldwell.
