Kentucky State Police in Ashland arrested a Carter County man after a state trooper saw him operating an ATV on a state highway.
Trooper Jack Hedges observed David Michael Haney, 31, of Grayson driving an ATV on Ky. 773 in Hitchens Wednesday around 7:30 p.m., according to police news release issued Monday. When Hedges turned on his emergency equipment, Haney sped up in an effort to elude the trooper, turning onto Clay Camps Road and then into the woods, the release said.
Hedges located Haney about 30 minutes later at the Hitchens Fire Department, where he arrested him, said Trooper 1st Class Elliott Gollihue with KSP. Gollihue did not know why Haney had driven his ATV to the fire department.
He is charged with second degree fleeing/evading police, operating an ATV on a roadway, reckless driving and theft by unlawful taking, police said.
