Shelbyville police officers involved in fatal shooting

Shelbyville: Two Shelbyville police officers were placed on administrative leave following a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon.

Police identified neither the male who was shot and later died, nor the officers involved.

State police said that Shelby County dispatch received a report about a male walking with a pipe in his hand along U.S. 60 in Shelbyville about 1:40 p.m. and that dispatchers got another call three minutes later saying the same male had broken the window out of a home on Clifton Court.

The two Shelbyville officers arrived at 100 Clifton Court at 1:47 p.m. and found the male, state police said.

The officers reported an officer down and called for help at 2:07 p.m.

The male received "a gunshot wound" and was taken to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, where "he died from his injuries," according to a state police news release. Both Shelbyville officers were taken to the hospital for treatment; details about their injuries were not released.

Kentucky State Police said they are investigating at the request of the Shelbyville Police Department.

State police said the officers had been placed on administrative leave.
