A Breathitt County woman died Thursday when her car slid off the road and plunged into a creek as she drove to baby-sit her great-grandchild, authorities said.
Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith said Elizabeth Roark was traveling north on Ky. 30 in the Carpenter's Branch area east of Jackson when her vehicle skidded into Quick Sand Creek about 7 a.m.
High water in the creek from recent rain hindered search crews, who finally found and recovered the body about 4 p.m., the coroner said. The water was 15 to 20 feet deep, he said. Roark was alone in the vehicle.
Black ice on the roadway is thought to be the cause of the accident.

"There was quite a bit of black ice in the area, and another driver had wrecked there just before she did," Griffith said.
Family members contacted authorities after Roark failed to arrive for her baby-sitting appointment, officials said.
