A Friday-afternoon explosion at a heating-and-cooling-repair workshop in southern Laurel County sent a man to a Lexington hospital, a fire chief said.
Merv Proffitt, thought to be in his late 60s, was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, said Ronnie Bales, chief of the Keavy Volunteer Fire Department. Proffitt had been discharged by Friday evening.
The cause of the 2 p.m. explosion is not known, but it blew out a side wall.
"The outside wall is leaning out about 2 feet off foundation," Bales said. "I think it can be repaired."
The incident happened on Anders Road about 6 miles west of Interstate 75 in the Keavy community.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the explosion, Bales said.
