Red Cross opens shelters for Kentucky storm victims

Four shelters have been opened by the American Red Cross to help Kentuckians displaced by violent storms on Friday.

The shelters are at Elliott County High School in Sandy Hook, Lawrence County High School in Louisa, Grant County High School in Dry Ridge and Laurel Fire Department in London, according to the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management.

The Red Cross has a Web site designed to help make communication easier for people following a disaster, said Joe Baird, a Red Cross volunteer at the state's Joint Information Center.

Concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as "safe and well" by clicking on the "Search Registrants" button. The results of a successful search will display a loved one's first name, last na
