Laurel sheriff's deputy involved in traffic accident Saturday night

Police are investigating a Saturday night traffic accident involving a Laurel County sheriff's deputy.

Deputy Kirk Mays, 38, of London was driving westbound on the Hal Rogers Parkway when a Toyota Camry driven by Sharlette Mills, 50, of London turned in front of the cruiser, according to a news release from the Laurel County Sheriff's office.The Camry struck the cruiser, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Mays and Mills were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London for minor injuries and were treated and released. Another officer riding with Mays in the Ford Crown Victoria, Roy Ball, also received minor injuries.

Mays was on his way to a complaint when the accident occurred, according to the news release. Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Eddy Sizemore is conducting an investigation into the crash.
