Former Barren County deputy to plead guilty in beating

One of four police officers charged with beating a handcuffed suspect in Barren County plans to plead guilty.

A hearing is scheduled May 1 for Joseph Adam Gene Minor to change his plea in the case, in which his former boss, Barren County Sheriff Christopher Brian Eaton, also is charged.

U.S. District Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr. entered an order Tuesday setting the hearing for Minor.

Minor's attorney, Ken Garrett of Glasgow, said he could not comment on whether Minor would cooperate with prosecutors in the case.

Eaton; deputies Minor and Aaron Adam Bennett; and Eric Duane Guffey, a drug task-force officer, are charged with beating a man in February 2010 during an arrest, then lying about the incident to federal investigators. McCown has since been dropped from the indictment.

Eaton faces the most charges. All five men pleaded not guilty; only Minor has moved to change his plea.

Garrett said Minor is no longer employed as a deputy.
