OWENSBORO — Work on an almost $3 million terminal expansion and renovation at Owensboro's airport is almost finished.
Airport Manager Bob Whitmer told The Messenger-Inquirer the project will resolve overcrowding and give the terminal a modern look.
Whitmer and project manager Joel Morrill walked officials through the terminal this week.
Since February 2009 when Allegiant Air began nonstop air service to Orlando, Fla., Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport often has had nearly 300 passengers coming and going inside the terminal — plus others who may take them or pick them up.

The project also includes remodeling the lobby and waiting areas and adding new seating and ticket counters.
The facility got a $1.6 million Kentucky Economic Development Fund loan from the state and a $500,000 coal severance fund grant.
