About 1,100 without power in Eastern Kentucky

Herald-Leader Staff Report

January 16, 2013 11:44 AM

About 1,100 homes in Eastern Kentucky were without power Wednesday morning, although most of the outages were unrelated to a mild overnight ice storm.

Kentucky Power spokesman Ronn Robinson said the outages for 1,000 customers in Pike County were caused by mechanical problems at an electrical substation and had nothing to do with the storm.

Smaller outages — about 130 in Hazard and 100 near Cannonsburg — were caused by ice.

Robinson said the power would probably be back on for everyone by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

"Overall, we weren't impacted that hard," Robinson said.

Kentucky Power serves 172,899 customers in 20 Kentucky counties, most of them in Eastern Kentucky.
