A Pulaski County couple died Tuesday in an apparent murder-suicide, according to a news release from the office of Sheriff Todd Wood.
Police said Vernon Lee Barnes, 34, and his wife, Paula Jean Barnes, 33, were having marital problems and that she was making plans to separate from him. The two apparently argued at midday Tuesday.
Police said they believe Barnes shot his wife one time with a .22-caliber rifle, then killed himself with the same gun. Both died at the couple's home in the eastern part of the county.
A neighbor reported the shooting at 12:59 p.m., reporting that one person had shot someone and then himself. The investigation continues.
