Mother, four kids died in fire, neighbor says

Brooksville: Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of a house fire in Northern Kentucky that killed five people. On Sunday Bracken County Coroner John Parker identified the victims as Rani Doss, 35, and her children, Dylan Thomas Eldred, 16, Michael Edward Doss, 13, Bradley Joseph Doss, 6, and Emily Ann Doss, 6. All five died of smoke inhalation, Parker said.

Two bodies were removed Saturday morning from the scene of the overnight fire at a two-story home in Powersville, a community outside of Brooksville in Bracken County. Three other bodies were found in the rubble later Saturday.

Parker said two people escaped the fire unharmed. They were not identified. An eighth person, also unidentified, was airlifted to a hospital.

Neighbor Michael Thomas told WKYT-TV that two people in the home managed to get out and that they dragged out a man he identified as the father of the children who died. He said the man tried to go back inside, "but his sister and brother-in-law kept him from entering the home that was already engulfed. "Left the wife and all four kids inside ...," Thomas said.
