The Estill County coroner has identified the 90-year-old woman whose body was found in a cistern at her home Monday night.
Mary Osborne, who lived alone, was found about 7 p.m. Monday in the cistern — a concrete tank under her home on Sarvis Road — by a relative who was checking on her, Estill County Coroner Tony Murphy said.
Osborne used water from the cistern and apparently fell in accidentally, Murphy said.
Kentucky State Police said the opening of the 8-foot-deep cistern is 20 inches by 20 inches, according to the Associated Press. Authorities said Osborne drowned in about 18 inches of water.
