A Clay County man died Thursday afternoon after he was pinned under his lawn mower that had caught on fire.
John "Johnny" Campbell, 49, of Manchester, was riding a large lawn mower on the shoulder of Sacker Road when he "apparently went over an embankment and flipped over into a small creek," said Clay County Coroner Danny Finley.
Neighbors responded immediately after seeing the smoke, but the fire prevented them from getting to Campbell in time, Finley said.
"Attempts to remove Mr. Campbell from the burning mower were unsuccessful," he said.

Finley pronounced Campbell dead at the scene at 4:05 p.m.
Drugs and alcohol were suspected in the accident, said Trooper Lloyd Cochran, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 11.
Campbell lived nearby, and neighbors said Campbell often mowed other people's lawns, Finley said.
