Wrecks in southern Kentucky cause closures on Interstate 75

Kentucky State Police and emergency crews had a tough time keeping Interstate 75 open in southern Kentucky on Thursday night.

A 12-vehicle wreck shut down the southbound lanes in Whitley County for almost three hours, until crews reopened the interstate about 7:15 p.m., state police at London said.

But about an hour later, a second crash near Corbin closed part of the highway again, troopers said.

Emergency crews were still working that wreck at 8:30 Thursday night.

The first crash occurred about 4:20 p.m. near mile marker 18 in Whitley County and involved up to a dozen vehicles, police said.

Troopers said there was at least one injury but no fatalities.

According to police, the Whitley accident apparently involved several individual crashes that happened about the same time in the same spot. Police were still sorting out what caused the wrecks.
