PRESTONSBURG — An inmate at a federal prison in Martin County died Monday, and foul play is suspected, a coroner said.
Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson said the inmate was brought to Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg from U.S. Penitentiary Big Sandy in Inez.
Nelson said he was called about the death shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. The coroner said the inmate had injuries, but he could not provide details because of the investigation.
Nelson said he couldn't identify the inmate because he didn't know whether the inmate's family had been notified.
