Somerset man being driven to hospital dies after wreck

A man who was on the way to the hospital for a medical emergency died Sunday afternoon following a traffic crash in Pulaski County, authorities said.

Don T. Turner, 57, of Somerset was pronounced dead at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was taken after the wreck, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.

It happened shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday on Pine Hill Road in eastern Pulaski County.

Officers said Don Turner was in a 2004 Chevrolet pickup being driven by his wife, Genevieve Y. Turner, 53, who was taking him to the hospital for a medical emergency.

Deputies said Genevieve Turner stated that a northbound vehicle was on her side of the road, and she swerved to avoid a collision and lost control of her pickup.

The truck went off the right side of the road into a ditch and hit an earthen embankment, according to deputies.

The sheriff's department said Don T. Turner suffered no major injuries in the wreck. The Pulaski Coroner's office ruled that he died of his previous medical emergency, not of injuries from the crash, the department said.

According to the sheriff's department, the vehicle that cause the wreck was described as a gold SUV.

Anyone who might have seen the crash, or might know the identity of the other driver, is asked to call the sheriff's department at (606) 678-5145.
