ASHLAND — A 94-year-old Boyd County resident has been honored as one of the original Rosie the Riveters.
The Independent reports Ernestine Brumfield worked for two years during World War II making B-24 bombers at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Michigan.
The factory was just purchased by the Yankee Air Museum, saving it from the wrecking ball.
Brumfield was invited to revisit the factory for an Oct. 25 ceremony to honor her contribution to the war effort. Despite slipping and breaking her leg on the way, she made it to the ceremony after a quick detour to the hospital.
