Truck driver charged after nearly striking officer at accident scene

A Clay City truck driver faces a felony charge after he allegedly drove around a two-vehicle accident scene and nearly struck a police officer early Friday, Winchester police said.

Quincy Collier, 37, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and reckless driving, said Winchester Police Capt. Harvey Craycraft.

At 1 a.m. Friday, police had shut down the southbound lane of the Winchester Bypass as they worked the accident. Collier's truck was pulling a 48-foot trailer.

"He apparently crossed over into the open lane of the northbound traffic, crossing over the concrete median and passing about 10 cars, and then he crossed back over into the southbound, almost striking a police officer," Craycraft said.

"He continued on and turned west onto Lexington Avenue, where they stopped him," Craycraft said.

Collier was being held in the Clark County jail.
