Here it comes again, Kentucky.

It’s been snowing for five days and there’s more to come.

Central Kentucky is under another Winter Storm Warning for this weekend, and it’s expected to bring 3 to 6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. It’s expected the flakes will start falling around 4 a.m.

As Kentucky looks ahead to another potential half-foot of precipitation, much of the state is still covered in ice from the storm that hit last weekend.

The storm system hit Jan. 5, bringing about 7 inches of snow and as much as an inch of ice in Lexington. The storm knocked out power for more than 90,000 Kentuckians, according to PowerOutages.us.

That number is down to 3,417 customers without power as of early Thursday afternoon.

While snow is expected with the upcoming storm, WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey said ice is unlikely, making this storm less severe than last weekend’s. Beshear has not declared a state of emergency as of Thursday afternoon.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton will hold a news conference Friday morning to discuss the approaching weather.

Many school districts, including Fayette County, will remain closed through Friday because of the weather.

Another light dusting of snow will follow on Sunday and Monday, and then more bitter cold temperatures will follow next week, Bailey said. The National Weather Service is predicting the high over the next seven days to just hit 34 degrees, with lows mostly in the teens.
