Schools will be closed Wednesday

Fayette County Schools will be closed Wednesday.

School officials announced the decision Tuesday afternoon, citing the continuing winter ice storm.

The school system now has used up all the weather make-up days within the regular school-year calendar, which normally would end with May 28 as the last day of classes.

The school calendar already has several more make-up days built in — June 1-5 and June 8 and 9 — if they are needed. If the schools ultimately need make-up days beyond that, officials would have to get approval from the Fayette County Board of Education.
