AT&T working to restore cell-phone service in Kentucky

AT&T is working to restore cellular phone service throughout the state.

The phone provider is repairing fiber-optic cable cuts that have impaired some AT&T cell sites.

AT&T hoped to complete the repairs by Friday morning, restoring service for many people before the weekend, AT&T spokeswoman Cathy Lewandowski said Thursday.

"At the same time, we are working on multiple fronts to deliver emergency generators to additional sites that have been impacted by the power outages," Lewandowski said.

Hundreds of employees are in Kentucky restoring the damaged equipment. Western Kentucky, which took the brunt of the winter storm, has been struggling with loss of land-line and mobile phone service.
