Governor to help God's Pantry collect food before Saturday's UK game

Governor Steve Beshear will team up Saturday with God's Pantry Food Bank and the University of Kentucky to collect food at the UK men's basketball game for winter storm victims in Central and Western Kentucky.

God's Pantry Food Bank will begin collecting food from 12:30 p.m. until tip-off at 3 p.m.

Donation trucks for food drop-offs and monetary donations will be outside Rupp Arena, off High Street and on Vine Street near Triangle Park. Organizers have asked for non-perishable food, including canned meats (tuna, salmon, chicken, ham, stew, chili, etc.), canned fruit, soups and peanut butter.

All food and monetary donations collected tomorrow will be evenly divided among the 50 counties that God's Pantry Food Bank serves in Central Kentucky and its partner organization, America's Second Harvest of Kentucky's Heartland, based in Elizabethtown.

Those in Fayette County who are unable to make it to tomorrow's drop-off points are may donate food to God's Pantry Food Bank's Lexington headquarters, 1685 Jaggie Fox Way. Monetary donations can be made through God's Pantry Web site,
