Power outages in state below 280,000

The number of Kentucky homes and businesses that have spent days without power continues to decrease.

Andrew Melnykovych, a spokesman for the Kentucky Public Service Commission, said Tuesday afternoon that, as of late Monday night, 218,000 customers were without power statewide.

Kentucky Utilities announced Tuesday morning that of that number, 62,000 were its customers — most of them west of I-65 — who were without power.

In addition to the PSC's report, the Tennessee Valley Authority reported that there were 61,000 without power in Western Kentucky, Melnykovych said.
