Honoring sacrifice

Staff Sgt. Christopher T. Stout, 34, was a native of Worthville in Carroll County and a graduate of Carroll County High School, when he joined the Army in 1997.

He trained to become a parachute rigger, packing, maintaining and repairing parachutes for his fellow paratroopers based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

In 2006, he became an Army chaplain's assistant.

Stout died July 13 in Afghanistan.

He was repelling an insurgent attack on an Afghan police compound in Kandahar City, reports WRAL in Raleigh N.C.

Staff Sgt. Stout was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

Funeral services will be held today in Fayetteville N.C. with burial at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C.

Staff Sgt. Stout is survived by his wife, three daughters and his parents.
