So, a handful of bands pulled out of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Game music venues, not wishing to crank out their favorites underneath a banner extolling the virtues of "clean coal." We applaud this principled stand, since there really is no such thing as clean coal. Games officials, and sponsor Alliance Coal (yes, the same Alliance Coal the state just fined $400,000-plus for mining on land it didn't own) will surely come up with entertainment alternatives. Our modest suggestion is to track down Kentucky favorite John Prine and pay him, say, the equivalent of a sizeable Mine Safety and Health Administration penalty, to belt out his signature anthem Paradise. Not to worry, coal barons, our overseas guests probably aren't familiar with Mr. Peabody or Muhlenberg County anyway.
