A Jan. 28 letter, “End gender pay pap,” is correct. Pay should be predicated on the job being done, not on gender. In the United States, women are typically paid 80 percent of what men are paid.
The American Association of University Women is working to address one factor regarding this issue. Many women are reluctant (or do not know how) to negotiate for a fair salary. AAUW has developed workshops to teach women how to negotiate for better, more equitable and fair salaries. The workshops are free.
