Letters: Missing sports coverage

Cover more sports

I agree with the letter about the lack of coverage of other sports beside basketball. I know this is a basketball city but, believe it or not, there are golf and horse-racing fans.

I was glad that Justin Thomas was named the Kentucky Sports Figure of the Year. He had a fantastic 2017 on the tour and won the FedEx cup. The golf season is just beginning and The Derby is just around the corner. Maybe one of your sportswriters can cover these sports sometime.

Track event missing

With all those pages of news coverage devoted to the University of Kentucky basketball team’s losing effort in the Feb. 4 edition, it is a shame that this paper couldn’t find a few column inches to devote to the UK track and field team and their superb performance in the UK Rod McCravy Invitational.

World-class performances were turned in by a number of male and female athletes and all of Lexington ought to be excited about this great team. But it is hard to drum up excitement when the local paper doesn’t carry a word of it.

Perhaps the sports department could broaden their scope a bit. There is more to write about than Kentucky basketball.
