In today’s society, in which women are struggling valiantly to change the narrative to one less accepting of sexual victimization, I find an ad in the Feb. 21 Herald-Leader highly offensive.
In the sports section, a huge headline reads “New $1.66 Sex Pill Creates ‘Beast’ in the Bedroom.” It is accompanied by a photo of a man holding down a woman. The text is full of information and testimonials about maintaining a good firm erection.
Really? I know newspapers are hard up for cash, but it seems there should be some kind of responsibility to reject this type of sexist advertisement. If you can’t run your newspaper without selling ads that promote and celebrate male sexual domination, then maybe you shouldn’t have a newspaper at all. For shame.
